Senior Friendly Fitness Open House at the Wellness Center Branch

YMCA Announces Open House on Friday, September 22nd

UNION COUNTY, NJ (September 2017) – The Gateway Family YMCA – Wellness Center Branch, 1000 Galloping Hill Rd, Union, will be hosting a Senior Friendly Fitness Open House on Friday, September 22nd. The Open House is open to the community and includes special events, senior classes, health information screenings and information on membership options at little or no cost to local seniors.

“Active Older Adults and Seniors need wellness options tailored to their specific abilities and needs,” stated Krystal R. Canady, CEO. “The YMCA is one place where everyone can participate, get healthy and make new friends. We offer trained, knowledgeable instructors and Wellness Coaches to partner with our members in their path to better health.”

On Friday, September 22nd free trial programs include: 9:15am 10 Minute Express Circuit, 10:15am Chair Yoga, 11:15am & 12:30pm Enhance Fitness and 4:30pm Gentle Yoga. In addition there will be health information and screenings throughout the afternoon, YMCA tours and membership information. “We invite the community to check out a number of classes that are chair based and do not involve getting up from the floor. These are particularly conducive to those less mobile,” stated Colleen Clayton, Interim Branch Executive Director.

Serving communities in Eastern Union County and Northern Middlesex County through five branches, The Gateway Family YMCA specializes in health and wellness options for those with chronic disease and anyone who needs a little extra support. The Wellness Center Branch offers Enhance Fitness – an evidence based program for those with arthritis, LiveSTRONG at the YMCA – a free community program in support of cancer survivors and the Diabetes Prevention Program.

“In addition to many programs and services offered free to the community, The Gateway Family YMCA provides Financial Assistance ensuring that everyone in need can benefit,” stated Melynda A. Mileski, EVP/COO. The Y participates in many insurance reimbursement programs, offers senior membership pricing and added a senior couple membership this winter.
