Swim Lessons*
The Rahway Branch YMCA Swim Lesson Program consists of a parent/child & preschool series, a youth series of progressive lessons, and adult lessons. From our parent/child classes at six months of age to our advanced youth level of Shark, our primary objectives are the achievements of aquatic skills and personal safety. The YMCA Swim Lesson Program is designed to focus on five components including personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, water sports and games, and age appropriate rescue. Each skill level builds upon the preceding level and skills must be completed before progression on to the next. Swimmers should be tested to ensure proper placement.
Parent/Child Lessons
- Shrimp, Kipper, Inia (6-18 months / 30 minute class)
- Perch (18 months 3 years / 30 minute class)
Preschool Lessons
- Pike (3-5 years / 30 minute class) Beginner I
- Eel (3-5 years / 30 minute class) Beginner II
- Ray (3-5 years / 30 minute class) Advanced Beginner I
- Starfish (3-5 years / 30 minute class) Advanced Beginner II
Youth Lessons
- Polliwog (6 11 years / 45 minute class) Introductory Level
- Guppuy (6 11 years / 45 minute class) Beginning Skill Level
- Minnow (6 11 years / 45 minute class) Intermediate Skill Level
- Fish (6 -11 years / 45 minute class) Swimmer Level
- Flying Fish (6 11 years / 45 minute class) Advanced Swimmer Level

Private Swim Lessons
Enjoy a customized swim class with a qualified instructor. Class is offered as a set of four (4) 30-minute lessons. Days and times will be arranged for the convenience of instructors and students. All lessons must be completed within a 5-week time period.
Aquatics Classes**
Aqua Fitness (Low Intensity)
Aqua fitness is a great water cardiovascular program that improves muscular strength and endurance. The water is an excellent exercise medium providing buoyancy, support, and gentle resistance class includes a variety of movements using the natural resistance that the water offers. Non-swimmers are welcome class is held in the shallow end of the pool.
Aqua Fit
Excellent non-impact, strength training and aerobic wet-workout for beginners or those who just want to stay fit. Enjoy stretching, calisthenics, ballet movements and basic water exercising, while increasing your cardio health. Great for active Seniors. Swimming not required.
Aqua Power
Excellent non-impact, strength training and aerobic wet-workout for those who really want to workout! Here you’ll enjoy a mix of stretching, calisthenics, Pilates, kickboxing and rigorous water exercises, guaranteed to trim and tone. Some knowledge of swimming and deep water treading is helpful.
